When No One Knows You Are Struggling-Taking Steps To Save Lives
Her words land on the screen in front of me and my heart misses a beat. I only know her name and the state she lives in. But she opens her heart to tell me about tragedy. Unexpected revelation-a God-moment for sure.
Perhaps you too have been struck by the increase in attention that has been flooding our world regarding suicide. It hits me between the eyes and feels like a dodge ball in the stomach every time I hear that someone has taken their life.
And I feel so helpless.
It’s often said that nobody knew that they were struggling. The thought that these precious people were so deeply loved and yet they faced such sadness and pain breaks my heart. I wanted to help, but didn’t know how.
And then a moment came when my husband Guy and I were given an opportunity to bring up the conversation and offer hope.
To be honest, I have no idea what is in store for us. We feel exceptionally humbled by the magnitude of this very real issue and at the same time, emblazoned with the need to step forward towards making a difference.
And in just a couple of weeks, we will move decidedly forward with the truth that life is worth living in a very public way.
But for now, we are organizing, writing, connecting, requesting, and building. Each labor a labor of love for those we may never even know but who are discouraged. Hopeless.
Last night, I searched the internet for an item I needed to pull off this adventure. Hundreds of products, hundreds of names. And then I saw it. Her artistry stood out.
So I sent her a note. Explained our project, and asked a very big question for a very tall order. “We are working on a project to spread a message of hope to those who struggle with depression and are affected by suicide. How God can change lives.” I write. And then I anticipate a rejection-this woman whose only information I have is her name, state, and sample of work.
But she writes back immediately. She absolutely wants to participate. “I lost my father to suicide.” she says, “This cause sounds fantastic.”
It’s a God-moment for me. Of course, I had no idea. How could I? But God had done the leading and the prompting to find…her. Our God is in the details.
He is in the details as much as He is in the majors. He knows the hairs on our head and the hurts in our hearts. He gave us life and gives us hope.
It’s moments like the one last night that give Guy and me the assurance that we are on the right track. We believe that life is worth fighting for and we understand the deep darkness that can overwhelm that desire to live.
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. John 10:10
I’m asking today, will you pray for me and my husband as our company, Storehouse Media Group plans and prepares to face this heavy subject of suicide and seek to bring a life-giving message of hope to our world in the next couple of weeks? Our heartfelt thanks, in advance, for partnering with us in prayer-we can’t, nor do we want to, do this without you!
YOUR TURN! There are so many details that need to come together in the days ahead. Will you pray for us and this project about suicide?
If this post blessed you, please SHARE it with others! I love to hear your comments!!
Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory. Psalm 115:1
