No One Lives On Easy Street

No One Lives On Easy Street

No one has it made. No one lives on Easy Street.

We look at others, and we ask:

Why are they so upset? They have their kids. That alone should make them happy. They have no financial problems. That alone should make them happy. They have their health. That alone should make them happy. They have a wonderful spouse. That alone should make them happy. They have successful careers. That alone should make them happy.

Do we not scoff at the rich celebrity who soothes their pain with addiction because we feel that the material riches and fame they afford are the ultimate pleasure?

Do we not scoff at the couple who grieves over their infertility when they have endless abilities to exercise their freedom to travel, pursue dream careers, or spend money all on themselves?

Do we not scoff at the couple with two healthy children who lament over financial debts and joblessness when they already have what no money can buy?

Do we not scoff at the married friend who complains about her husband as a single we drown in our own loneliness?

I know the wealthy family whose child is gravely ill. I know the poor family whose children are healthy. I know the famous person who is lonely. I know the infertile couple who travels the world. I know the struggling father looking for a job who has a loving and supportive spouse. I know the aching single man who has every career success.

No one gets off easy in life. We all have blessings. We all have losses. There is only one remedy for each unique sorrow. It’s Him. It’s Jesus. He designed each of our paths knowing what would cause us to search for Him, to cry out to Him, to FIND Him. That is our end purpose in life, and our daily sufferings are opportunities to seek God and allow Him to fill our emptiness.  There is hope for the downhearted, but it doesn’t manifest itself in any person, place, status, or achievement. Hope for the hurting is found in Christ alone and He is near.

From one man he made every nation of the human race to inhabit the entire earth, determining their set times and the fixed limits of the places where they would live, so that they would search for God and perhaps grope around for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us. Acts 17: 26-27

YOUR TURN!  What blessings can you focus on today? How do you keep your mind set on things above, not on earthly things? I love to hear from you!!

Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory. Psalm 115:1
